Home/Install day

24° Install day

Most single rooms
are done in a day.
Here is the day.

Survey beforehand, so the day holds no surprises. One hole, one plate, one unit, one outdoor box, then the part that matters: vacuum, pressure test and charge. Handover at 21°.

23° Hour by hour

A typical single-room fit.

Times are typical for a wall-mounted split with a short pipe run. A multi-split or a cassette is one to two days, and we tell you which at the survey.

Before the day

Survey and quote

The surveyor measures the room, checks the glazing and which way it faces, works out where the outdoor unit can sit and how the pipes will run, and asks about the neighbours and the drains. You get a fixed written quote the same day. Nothing on the install day is a surprise.

02

8:30 am

The hole

Dust sheets down, then a 65 mm core through the outside wall, drilled with a slight fall outwards so the drain runs the right way. A vacuum on the drill keeps the dust in the bag rather than on the carpet.

03
Fixing the indoor mounting plate level with a spirit level
9:15 am

The plate

The indoor unit hangs on a steel plate. It is fixed level, into solid fixings, at the height and position agreed at the survey, usually above the window so the air sweeps the room rather than the bed.

04
Lifting the indoor unit onto its plate with the pipes through the wall
10:00 am

Indoor unit on

The pipes, drain and cable are formed to the back of the unit, fed through the hole, and the unit is lifted onto its plate. From inside, that is the job done: one slim white unit and no visible pipework.

Outdoor unit on

Galvanised brackets are bolted to the wall with anti-vibration mounts, or the unit sits on a slab on rubber feet. We site it where it is quiet for you and your neighbours, and where the service valves can be reached.

06
Clipping the insulated pipes and drain into trunking
12:00 pm

Pipes and trunking

Insulated copper pipes, the condensate drain and the interconnecting cable run down the wall in trunking that matches the brick or render. Corners are mitred, not gapped.

07
Tightening a flare nut on the outdoor unit with a torque wrench
1:00 pm

Flares and connections

Each pipe end is flared and tightened onto the service valves with a torque wrench to the maker’s figure, with a second spanner holding the valve. Over-tightened flares crack and under-tightened ones leak; the torque wrench is the difference.

08
A manifold gauge set and vacuum pump on the outdoor unit
2:00 pm

Vacuum, test, charge

The pipework is pulled into a deep vacuum and held to prove there is no moisture or air in the lines, then pressure tested before the refrigerant is released. This step is what makes a system last fifteen years instead of five, and it is the one a cheap install skips.

Handover

We run the system, set it to 21°, show you the remote and the app, set a sensible timer, and tidy up. You get the commissioning sheet and the warranty paperwork before we leave.

Before we go

The two-minute filter clean

The front panel hinges up and the mesh filters lift out. A rinse under the tap once a month in summer keeps the unit quiet and efficient. We show you how, because it is the one bit of maintenance that is yours.

21° Straight answers

Things people ask about the day.

Do I need to be in all day?+

Someone needs to let us in and be there for the handover at the end. In between you can get on with your day; we work in one room and outside.

How much mess is there?+

One hole through the wall, drilled with a vacuum on the drill, and dust sheets everywhere we work. We hoover before we leave. Most people cannot tell we were there except for the unit on the wall.

Do you need power?+

Yes. Most single systems run from a dedicated circuit from your consumer unit, which our electrician fits on the day. The survey checks your board has space.

What about the warranty?+

The system comes with the maker’s parts warranty, and our installation is guaranteed on top. Commissioning sheets are kept on file so any warranty claim has the evidence it needs.
